Dear School of Education community:
In the midst of these uncertain times, I am happy to write with good news! I am very excited to share that Shauna Harris has been selected to serve as our new assistant dean for student affairs, effective Aug. 31.
Her selection followed an extensive search that attracted a high number of competitive candidates. We are fortunate that we found Dr. Harris here already at Carolina, which means she comes to us with a knowledge of our campus and many of the issues, challenges, and opportunities we confront.
Dr. Harris previously served for more than three years as associate director for student life and leadership at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Carolina Union. She’s also been exposed to the School of Education through her service during the past two years as an adjunct instructor in our School and has served on the UNC Thrive@Education Advisory Board.
Before coming to Carolina, Dr. Harris worked in a variety of positions in student affairs at North Carolina Central University and at the University of Georgia.
She earned a B.A. in history at Clemson University. She earned an M.Ed. in higher education and student affairs from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. in counseling and student personnel services from the University of Georgia. She is active in student affairs professional associations, regularly presenting at conferences and other meetings on many of the topics that we face in our work.
You can find the full School of Education news release on Dr. Harris’s appointment here.
Please join me in extending a warm and enthusiastic welcome to Dr. Harris to the School of Education!
Stay well, stay safe!
