Dawna Jones wins a UNC Public Service Award

Dawna Jones, an adjunct instructor with the School of Education, has won a Robert E. Bryan Public Service Award from the University. Jones was one of 10 people and one organization recognized at UNC-Chapel Hill’s annual Public Service Awards event on Thursday. Jones, who is an assistant dean of students in the University’s Student Affairs office, teaches a First Year Thriving course for the School of Education. She was recognized for her work in leadership of the Carolina Black Caucus and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP. Read more here.


School Counseling alumni Kevin Duquette, Lindsey Nichols win awards

Alumni Kevin Duquette (’13, M.Ed.) and Lindsey Nichols (’06, M.Ed.) have each won awards for their work as school counseling educators. Duquette, an assistant professor of counselor education at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, has been named the state’s Counselor Educator of the Year. Nichols, an associate professor in the University of Wyoming College of Education’s School of Counseling, Leadership, Advocacy and Design, has been named the college’s Patricia McClurg Education Faculty Fellow for 2021-23. Nominations sought for Teaching Excellence Award

The School’s Teaching Excellence Awards Committee invites and encourages current students and graduates who received their degree within the past year to nominate a School of Education faculty member. The deadline for spring awards is May 1. The nomination form and award criteria are here.


Graduating students invited to contribute to recognition page

To help celebrate our graduating students, the School of Education is creating a web page to honor all graduates in each of our programs. Students are invited to submit additional information, including a short statement with the option of sharing a short video describing how they will propel the world. Submissions are due May 19.
