About the Ph.D. Program Admissions Committee

Charge
In conjunction with support and input from the Dean’s Office, the committee makes decisions about PhD program admissions based upon the following criteria, among others: (1) a holistic review of the quality of individual applicants and the overall pool, (2) a good candidate-advisor-program fit, (3) unit-wide determinations of availability of funding for candidates, (4) an overall assessment of the current capacity of the faculty for additional PhD students (i.e., faculty capacity for sitting on doctoral committees, dissertation committees, etc.), and (5) assessment of the likelihood that, upon graduation, the candidate would be competitive on the job market. Leadership of this process, and final approval of the list of candidates for admission, are the responsibility of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Director of Graduate Studies.

Composition
Comprised of the program coordinators of the four PhD in Education strands (i.e., CACTE, ADSSE, LSPS, PLS) and School Psychology, as well as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs as ex officio members.

Term
Membership is part of the positions which make up the composition of the committee.
